영문법 용어를 익히고 문법능력을 향상시키는 것을 목표로 한다. 다양한 문맥을 통하여 문법의 형태와 의미, 사용 간의 상호관련성을 이해하고 연습문제 풀기와 다양한 학습활동을 통하여 학습자의 문법지식을 강화시킨다. 이를 토대로 학생은 통합적인 방식으로 영어로의 의사소통능력을 발전시킬 수 있다.

This course is designed to help students to have a basic, firm understanding of English grammar in a communicative way. It aims to improve and extend students’ knowledge of English grammar by practicing a variety of grammatical patterns of modern English. Grammatical patterns to be covered in class include verb tenses, basic parts of speech, sentence combinations, and main aspects of various syntactic structures. By the end of the semester, students will have increased their oral and written competence in English, and they will have learned English grammar on the basis of lecture and group work.

The goal of this course is to increase understanding of human language abilities while exploring the systematic characteristics of the English language. Through the process of observing and analyzing linguistic data, students will discover and comprehend the rules governing phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics of language. Through this approach, insights into English can be developed and the potential abilities as future English educators can be nurtured.

This course introduces the basic theory of English literature, especially the classical sources of English literature: Bible, The Greek Mythology, The Iliad, and The Odyssey. This course will also seek a new discourse of peace for the 21th century, as well as a new methodology of English education in junior or high schools.

The goal of this course is to cultivate students' capabilities to formalize various phonological phenomena and generalize similar phenomena in the English language. Throughout the class, students learn how to formalize them using distinctive features. During the entire duration of the course, students are supposed to practice problem solving and they eventually have the ability to logically explain the reason specific phonological processes occur in the language.

This class is a survey course on American literature especially focusing on literary history, understanding general trend in American literature, understanding American culture, and understanding various genres and styles in American literature. This class consists of various types of discussions―small group discussion, planetary discussion, presentation and short lectures. After taking this class, students will enhance 1) understanding of American literary history, 2) understanding of literary works including fictions, poems, and drama, 3) ability to prepare their upcoming teacher employment exam.

This course focuses on the second round of the national test to become an English teacher. Students will learn classroom English to improve teaching English in English. Students will also learn new vocabulary, idioms, and phrasal verbs to better express themselves in the classroom and participate in the conversations.

This course is to help students improve their listening proficiency in English and further grasp diverse methods of teaching listening. Students will have various kinds of listening training, and take mock standardized tests to measure their proficiency. This would give them a stimulus to study harder and induce their enhanced confidence. As a result, students will get furnished with a considerable listening proficiency and teaching skills needed for an able English teacher.

The aim of the class is to enhance not only the understanding of linguistics but also the ability to accurately comprehend texts in English. Moreover, with an eye toward the teacher certification exams upon graduation, this course aims to progressively prepare students in understanding regional educational policies and the broader educational curriculum, which are essential for secondary interviews during the teacher certification process.

The purpose of this course is to learn effective ways of applying ICT(Information & Communication Technology) to an English classroom in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. Based on an understanding of various technologies, pre-service English teachers will get a chance to incorporate these technologies into English education by developing their own materials. Also, they will have an opportunity to think about how they should prepare themselves for the future and what roles they should take as a pre-service teacher.

이 수업은 영미시에 대한 분석을 통해 학생들로 하여금 어떻게 시를 해석하고 시에 담긴 문화를 이해하며 시가 가지는 역사적 배경들을 이해하는 능력을 키우려 한다. 더불어 중등과정에서 영시를 가르칠 수 있는 능력을 키우려 한다. 학생들은 수업에서 영시의 기본 개념들을 익히고 실제 시들을 PBL이나 모듬 활동들을 통해 해석하고 이해하는 과정을 겪으면서 영미시를 더 잘 이해하게 될 것이다.

This class will mostly emphasize the study of poems partially focusing on how to prepare poetry part of TEE(teacher employment exam). Students will learn how to understand poem and gain knowledge and experience of history of poetry and poetic forms. Students have to participate actively with motivation to learn basic and in-depth analysis of poems. The class will consist of lectures, small group discussion, presentation, in-class writing, and exams. There will be two main exams(mid-term and final exams) and pop-quiz as well as presentation sessions for evaluation. I hope that everyone can enjoy the sentimental journey to the world of poetry where deep thoughts and emotions welcome all.

This course is designed to help pre-service teachers improve logical thinking and writing skills. At the same time, it is expected for them to improve ability to teach writing effectively to their future students. They will learn how to craft an essay with a strong, clear thesis, body paragraphs, transitions, and a conclusion. They will also learn how to generate ideas about a topic and make their writing more coherent. In addition, they will practice writing and revising drafts and critically evaluating their own and others’ work.

In the realm of linguistics, concerning the content of linguistic signs, two subfields exist: semantics and pragmatics. While semantics delves into the static comprehension of content, pragmatics explores the dynamic interpretation of language use within context. In this course, students will study essential concepts from both semantics and pragmatics, which are two linguistic subfields dedicated to understanding meaning.

This course explores new directions for English education in the rapidly changing future society and focuses on developing the professional competencies of teachers to realize them. It examines how ongoing social, cultural, and technological transformations―such as artificial intelligence, digital literacy, and emerging learning environments―affect language learning and teaching. Students will investigate how the competencies and values required in future society can be integrated into the goals and methods of English education. Through case analysis and inquiry-based learning, students will develop practical and adaptive skills that enable them to respond flexibly to evolving educational contexts and design innovative and sustainable approaches to English teaching.

This course surveys fictions written by major British and American writers. The general objective of the course is to introduce students to a range of topics and methodologies which help characterize the British and American literature. The most important core skill we will learn in this course will be close-reading, improvement of listening skill and critical understanding of literature in the lieu of connections among your life experience, critical analysis, and literary works’ intertextuality with historical, social, ethical, philosophical, cultural, and ethnic contexts. I will provide various handouts to help you broaden and deepen your expertise on critical understanding of American and British fictions.
